"Ryanair Shifts Winter Flights: International Routes Thrive as Domestic Connections to Sicily Face Cuts"

As previously indicated on Tp24 in recent days, Ryanair has officially confirmed a reduction in winter flights to and from Sicily.

Interestingly, Ryanair is expanding its flight offerings and routes within Italy. Ten new destinations will be added, all of which are international, departing from both Milan and Bergamo this winter. Simultaneously, Ryanair's CEO, Michael O'Leary, has announced cuts to domestic travel to Sicily (following similar measures taken for Sardinia).

This decision stems from the decree-law regarding high flight costs (which specifically limits fares for trips to Sardinia and Sicily). "An absurd act," declares O'Leary, one that encourages the carrier to scale back its offerings within our country. "An act that should be reconsidered."

O'Leary further adds, "While we are expanding international routes to and from Milan this winter, Italy's national growth is jeopardized by the Italian government's illegitimate decree, which restricts airlines' freedom to set low airfares."

"Italy is a sovereign country and will not be blackmailed by anyone," responded Adolfo Urso, the Minister for Enterprises and the 'Made in Italy', in answer to Ryanair's CEO's statements.
